Great Op-Ed by U.S. Rep. Barry Loudermilk. It’s one thing to point out the inhumanity of Planned Parenthood’s actions, but we must also be active participants in the movement for life.

Please take a moment to read an excerpt below and if it inspires you, take a moment to join us today.

“As undercover videos of Planned Parenthood’s activities have come to light by the Center for Medical Progress, it’s time to take a hard look at our culture and ask some tough questions. Has our national conscience been so dulled that we no longer have a basic sense of right and wrong? Have we been so blinded by a perverted sense of individual liberty that we now believe human life is nothing more than a commodity? Have we so devalued the most basic gift of God, a human life, that we can casually describe how to best preserve the most profitable parts of a baby, over lunch?

Our nation should be outraged by what these investigative videos have uncovered and demand that the government put an immediate end to these unspeakable atrocities. But relying on Washington to eradicate this problem is not enough….

While government can, and should, react strongly and decisively to address this atrocity, what we are really facing in this nation is a cultural issue. The nonchalant attitude of Planned Parenthood employees discussing the price of infants’ body parts over lunch is evidence of a growing disrespect for the value of human life. I believe this has been brought on by a general disregard for what the Founders called the “laws of nature and of nature’s God” — in other words, a standard moral code….

My office is working hard to bring a bill to the floor that will stop all funding for Planned Parenthood. The president has said he will veto attempts to defund the organization, but that should not deter us from doing what is moral, right and expected. However, no matter how hard we push in Washington or in our state, none of this will happen without an outraged public demanding action and accountability.

My father taught me that if there is something that you don’t like, you have two choices: You can do something to change the situation, or you can accept it as inevitable and go on with your life. If the actions of Planned Parenthood offend you, you should take action; otherwise, nothing will change. The people can call for government and private industry to stop funding these atrocities. We are still a government of the people, and your voice is power, but only if you use it. What choice will you make?”

Our office has struggled to digest, process, and reinterpret the videos being released on Planned Parenthood’s harvesting of human body parts from aborted unborn babies. The seventh-video above at one point shows what appears to be a completely intact aborted baby in a sterile medical presentation (probably 20-22 weeks)  (Warning – this is extremely graphic and we would advise viewer discretion). The witness goes on to describe cutting through a baby’s face to obtain an intact brain, and then disposing of the rest of the baby’s body – including buttocks, legs, feet, etc.

We would imagine that both pro-life and pro-abortion groups alike are trying to reframe the messages and images from these videos to either advance or defend their respective agendas.  But like the crowd in the story of the “Emperor’s New Clothes”, we have zoned in on describing the “clothes” – or in this case negotiated pricing of the harvested baby parts – and maybe deemphasized the nakedness of this story:  the small, helpless, and completely human child that has been murdered for a price.

These are little humans, with little lips and little feet.  They are helpless, hiding safely in their mother’s uterus.  They are insulated by the amniotic fluid in the soft darkness of the womb and ignorant of the battle for choice fiercely raging outside.  And then, after a free pregnancy test, standard STD testing, a $125.00 ultrasound (or free one obtained at the local Pregnancy Care Center), and a final $600.00 cash or credit card payment, the abortion doctor proceeds to abnormally and violently end the small innocent life.  But for the money changing hands and the doctor willing to do the deed, that little life would likely continue its quiet, steady, beautiful growth into a soft, needy, innocent human whose presence is celebrated and life protected by all laws.

The Center for Medical Progress (CMP) today released another video in a series exposing the baby body part harvesting and trafficking conducted by affiliates of Planned Parenthood Federation of America, the nation’s largest abortion provider. This is the sixth such video released by CMP uncovering the gruesome nature of Planned Parenthood’s huge abortion business.

“If it seems disturbing and repulsive to proudly flaunt participation in the killing of a human life, that’s because it is,” said Carol Tobias, National Right to Life president. “In previous videos, that’s exactly what we’ve seen Planned Parenthood officials doing – with total disregard for the unborn children whose body parts are being harvested.”

The series of videos by the Center for Medical Progress have highlighted the need for legislation such as the Pain-Capable Unborn Child Protection Act and the Unborn Child Protection from Dismemberment Abortion Act, and has renewed efforts to end Planned Parenthood’s taxpayer funding. Earlier this month, Senate Democrats blocked a measure (S. 1881), introduced by Sen. Joni Ernst (R-Iowa), that would cut off federal funding of the Planned Parenthood Federation of America and its affiliates. Several states, including Alabama, Louisiana and New Hampshire have moved to cease state funding of Planned Parenthood affiliates.

Despite this outcry for action by elected officials and the introduction of pro-life legislation, a Monmouth University poll released on August 4 found that the news media continues to take its cues from Planned Parenthood and their crisis communications firm and treat the videos as a non-story. The poll found that an astounding 53% had not seen or heard news about the CMP videos.

“It’s an unconscionable breach of the public trust that the mainstream news media allows itself to be herded like cattle by Planned Parenthood and their crisis-consultants, ignoring the grisly revelations about Planned Parenthood’s abortion business” Tobias said.

Journalists who wish to engage in original reporting about Planned Parenthood and their abortion business, may find useful a documented background memo released by National Right to Life on August 4, which highlights some of the popular Planned Parenthood myths that have been perpetuated in recent news accounts.

Planned Parenthood is the nation’s largest provider of abortions – about one-third of all abortions in the U.S. are performed at Planned Parenthood-affiliated facilities. According to their most recent annual report, Planned Parenthood received at least $528 million annually from the federal government or other levels of government.

“As baby body parts are being routinely salvaged from brutal abortion procedures – their bodies sifted through for organs while fees are callously being negotiated – the media continues to remain silent,” Tobias added. “If only these innocent babies were puppies or kittens, perhaps then we would hear uproar from those reporting the news.”

Founded in 1968, the National Right to Life Committee (NRLC), the federation of 50 state right-to-life affiliates and more than 3,000 local chapters, is the nation’s oldest and largest grassroots pro-life organization. Recognized as the flagship of the pro-life movement, NRLC works through legislation and education to protect innocent human life from abortion, infanticide, assisted suicide and euthanasia.
