Life at the Capitol
As we begin our 2nd year at the Capitol, Georgia Life Alliance Committee continues to build relationships with Legislators and organizations to encourage a culture of life in Georgia. This year, Director of Operations Kristina Twitty will be at the Capitol on a daily basis, tracking legislation which touches on life-related issues, as well as advocating for our own positively pro-life agenda.
Last year, HB 555 was introduced, sponsored by Representative Joyce Chandler (R-Grayson) and co-signed by 19 others. HB 555 is will bring some clarity to the reporting requirements already in the law related to informed consent previous to an abortion procedure and children under the age of 18 using the parental bi-pass process to have an abortion without their parents knowledge.
This year, SB 308 was introduced by Senator Renee Unterman (R-Buford), along with about a dozen other Senators to create a grant program available for Pregnancy Resource Centers to continue the great work they do across Georgia and the services they provide to women facing an unplanned pregnancy. Executive Director, Emily Matson, has been involved in crafting both pieces of legislation and continues to be involved in efforts to influence the process and legislation related to the unborn and women who carry them.
