WASHINGTON – The National Right to Life Committee (NRLC), the federation of state right-to-life organizations, today responded to a second video by The Center for Medical Progress (CMP) dealing with arrangements between high-ranking associates of the Planned Parenthood Federation of America (PPFA) and vendors (real and feigned) for baby body parts from unborn children killed by abortion.
The video released today shows a conversation between Dr. Mary Gatter, president of the Medical Directors Council of PPFA, and two CMP-affiliated persons posing as executives of a recently formed for-profit firm engaged in collecting and selling fetal organs to researchers. Dr. Gatter discusses a potential contract between the simulated vendor and Planned Parenthood of Pasadena and San Gabriel Valley [California], where she is medical director, as well as past organ-harvesting arrangements at Planned Parenthood Los Angeles, where she was previously medical director.
“Another discussion, over lunch, of dismembering unborn children to harvest their body parts once again demonstrates the callousness and heartlessness of Planned Parenthood toward unborn children,” said Carol Tobias, National Right to Life president. “The conversation enters the realm of utter depravity when the Planned Parenthood doctor says she will explore ‘using a less crunchy technique to get more whole specimens.’ Dr. Gatter also expresses concern that the payments must ‘be big enough that it is worthwhile,’ and laughingly adds, ‘I want a Lamborghini.’ Women who have been exploited by Planned Parenthood and who now see this video are unlikely to be laughing with her.”
Today’s video once again highlights the need for legislation such as the Pain-Capable Unborn Child Protection Act and the Unborn Child Protection from Dismemberment Abortion Act. These bills would greatly expand protections for unborn children from late abortions, and would curb some of the grisly practices described by the senior Planned Parenthood doctors in the two videos released so far by the CMP. Twelve states have enacted the Pain-Capable Unborn Child Protection Act. In May, the U.S. House of Representatives passed a federal version of the bill, which is currently awaiting action in the U.S. Senate. Earlier this year, Kansas and Oklahoma became the first two states to ban dismemberment abortions.
“One immediate priority is enactment of the federal Pain-Capable Unborn Child Protection Act, which will at least begin to limit the ability of the abortion industry to deliver intact, well-developed baby body parts to order,” said Tobias, “Pro-life activists, public officials, and candidates alike also need to prioritize ending public funding of the abortion industry. It’s time to say ‘enough is enough’.”
Founded in 1968, the National Right to Life Committee (NRLC), the federation of 50 state right-to-life affiliates and more than 3,000 local chapters, is the nation’s oldest and largest grassroots pro-life organization. Recognized as the flagship of the pro-life movement, NRLC works through legislation and education to protect innocent human life from abortion, infanticide, assisted suicide and euthanasia.
