U.S. SENATE TAKES SWIFT ACTION IN RESPONSE TO PLANNED PARENTHOOD REVELATION

Georgia Life Alliance • August 4, 2015

ATLANTA- Georgia’s U.S. Senators, Senator Johnny Isakson and Senator David Perdue, joined forty-two other Senate co-sponsors behind S. 1881 which would succinctly prohibit the availability of Federal funds to “Planned Parenthood Federation of America, or to any of its affiliates, subsidiaries, successors, or clinics.” The monumental collaboration by pro-life Senators steamrolled the legislation to a vote early Monday evening. Unfortunately,  the bill garnered only 53 to 46 votes on the cloture motion – meaning it failed to get the 60 votes necessary to overcome a filibuster by the Democrats.

“We are proud of our Georgia Senators for supporting this swift and targeted action to defund the Nation’s largest abortion provider” said GLA Executive Director Emily Matson. “Planned Parenthood’s pocketbook has been a deposit account for the American taxpayer for too long.  The video revelations we have received in the past weeks make it clear Planned Parenthood’s participation in the compensation-driven procurement of human baby parts must end. We hope the momentum behind S. 1881 will not slow down.”

As the Georgia Affiliate of National Right to Life, Georgia Life Alliance is committed to growing and promoting a pro-life culture. GLA proudly supports Senator Johnny Isakson and Senator David Perdue in joining this effort to block funding for Planned Parenthood.
