God isn’t done writing our stories yet.
Today, our good friend Pastor Jentezen Franklin of Free Chapel (who I had the pleasure of serving with on the Pro-Life Voices for Trump Board of Directors last year) preached a powerful message about how important it is to trust in God as the author of our story and never put a period where He is placing a comma.
As I listened, it took me back to memories of the beginning of 2019. Georgia had just won huge election victories in November of 2018 and the pro-life movement was begging the question of what is next for our culture. The reality was, the previous pro-life leadership in our state and even some in national leadership were urging us not to do anything dramatic to upset the tentative peace between the abortion industry and the pro-life community.
The trouble was, as I was taking over as Executive Director here at GLA, I believed God was casting a new vision for our state and for what He was going to do in our culture. And I believed that, even though our predecessors were cautioning us that the Courts were not favorable to a new abortion ban and the media would never give us a fair shot and defending it, God was calling us to step out in faith and answer His call.
So, when Governor Kemp gave his support to our plan to push the Heartbeat Bill, we were nervous, uncertain, but confident. And God honored our faith by keeping His promises.
In the time between when Governor Kemp signed the Heartbeat Bill and now, not only did we get fair representation in the media with opportunities like a 45 minute live debate with the President of Planned Parenthood Southeast on NPR and coverage on every news outlet with an acronym, but the 11th Circuit Court of Appeals (where the Heartbeat Bill currently resides) received a new majority of Justices and the Supreme Court (where it heads next) received 3 new pro-life Justices from President Trump - all under the advisement of the Pro-Life Voices for Trump Board of Directors (which included Georgia representatives Pastor Jentezen Franklin, Alveda King, Ralph Reed, and myself).
Those who came before us were eager to put a period on the fight to protect the sanctity of life. BUT GOD.
Because of the faithfulness of His people in Georgia, we are closer now than ever to a Post Roe Georgia and a culture that respects and protects all life - with no exceptions.
I don’t know about you, but that’s the encouragement I needed on my Sunday. In my life personally, but specifically as we are about to set out on a new week of fighting against the abortion industry.
While we may not be able to see the path before us, the Author and Finisher of our faith does. He is calling us to step out in faith and let Him write the next chapter of your life, the Church, our state, and the pro-life movement.
With another long week of work ahead of us, I want to encourage you that the work before us is not in vain. I haven’t seen the future, but I’ve read the end of the book: Jesus wins. Life wins. And we need you now more than ever to keep pressing onward and not grow weary in doing good as we work together to build a culture of life.
As my friend Pastor Jentezen would say, why don’t you take a 5 second praise break, and let’s thank God for His faithfulness in Georgia. Be praying for us as we continue our work, and we hope to see you on the road soon at one of our Post Roe Georgia Statewide Tour dates!
Together for Life,
Joshua Edmonds
